Apple’s iPod, iTunes Music event

Apple is going to hold a spcial music event on september 1st annouced today. Harry McCracken just got an invitation to an Apple press event in San Francisco on September 1st. Here’s the art–either the company is finally making its long-awaited move into the guitar business, or it’s scheduled its traditional September iPod launch.

The only known detail for the event is a fourth-generation iPod touch, which should have a 960×640 Retina Display along with a front camera for FaceTime and possibly a back camera as well. A revamp of the Apple TV known as the iTV, with iOS, streaming videos and apps, is also rumored to be part of the plan.
What exactly will Apple announce? Well, it’s a tradition for the company to release new iPod hardware in September. This year, it’s widely expected Apple will add the “Retina” display and front-facing camera of the iPhone 4 to the iPod Touch. There’s also been speculation about changes coming to Apple TV, including a scaled-down device, a much lower price tag of $99, and access to the App Store.

Whatever Apple ends up doing, you can be sure that no one outside the company will know about it until the day of their press conference, unless someone manages to take another fateful trip to the local pub.
