Hyundai launches new i10

To strengthen its presence in the compact car segment, Hyundai Motor India on Thursday introduced its new hatchback, i10 at an introductory price of Rs. 3.49 lakh-Rs 5.91 lakh (ex-showroom ,Delhi).

The new car, Next Gen i10, which made its global debut here on Thursday, will replace the existing i10 that was priced between Rs. 3.48 lakh and Rs. 5.58 lakh. It will be showcased at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, beginning October 2.

“Next Gen i10 reflects our big plans for the Indian market. I am confident that this will further strengthen our position in this segment,” Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO H W Park told reporters here.

Since the launch of the car in Indian market in 2007, the company has sold a total of about seven lakh units of the i10 so far and it contributed about 50 per cent of HMIL’s export, he added.

The ‘Next Gen i10’ will be available in two petrol engine variants of 1.1 litre and 1.2 litre. The company claims that while the 1.1 litre car has a mileage of 19.81 km per litre, the 1.2 litre engine variant will deliver a fuel economy of 20.36 km per litre.

When asked about sales target, HMIL Director (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said: “We were selling about 13,000 units per month of the existing i10... Hopefully, we should do about 15,000 units a month with the new i10.”

The company is expecting to sell a total of about 5.9 lakh units in 2010 compared to 5.61 lakh units in last year.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao says there are "thousands" of reasons for U.S.-China relations to move forward. Speaking at dinner of American and Chinese businessmen in New York Wednesday, Mr. Wen said he believes all disputes between the two superpowers about trade will be resolved.

A smiling Wen Jiabao took the podium at the Waldorf Astoria hotel and told the audience that he is an optimist about relations between the two nations.

He said he "fully believes that all the disputes and differences in China-U.S. trade at the moment will be resolved. And after the settlement of these problems, the China-U.S. relationship will take a further step forward and be taken onto [a] higher plain."

Mr. Wen, who is in New York for the annual meetings of the United Nations, said the China-U.S. relationship "enjoys a bright future, because common interests between our two countries far outweigh our differences."

The rumors were true: after months — years, even — of speculation, YouTube is preparing to launch a full-fledged live streaming platform, enabling its content parters to stream their video directly to users in real-time. This will put the service in direct competition with the likes of Ustream, Justin.tv, and Livestream. We recently caught screenshots of a live streaming option in the wild that YouTube only made available to its politics-oriented channel CitizenTube. Obviously it has much bigger plans for the feature.

Beginning Monday morning and running through Tuesday night, four select YouTube partners — Next New Networks, Howcast, Young Hollywood, and Rocketboom — will be streaming live footage on YouTube (you can see a full listing of what they’re broadcasting in the widget above Update: The widget is currently broken on Google’s end). But don’t get too excited just yet: this is only an alpha test, and YouTube will be taking the live streaming functionality down after the two-day trial. However, the company has confirmed that it plans to eventually offer live streaming to all of its content partners (it may just take a while to get there).

Live streams will only be available on YouTube proper (you can’t embed it in widgets yet), and YouTube won’t be archiving the footage, either. But it sounds like both of these features will be coming down the line. One key feature that will be active are comments — the four content providers will be able to respond to user feedback in real-time.

One important thing to note: YouTube’s language throughout the briefing was all about Partners, not the millions of ‘normal’ YouTube users. This isn’t surprising — there’s obviously a big infrastructure hurdle involved with streaming content from so many people, but, more importantly, there’s also a greater risk that someone will stream a suicide or something similarly awful.

The news has been a long time coming. Way back in February 2008 YouTube cofounder Steve Chen said that live video was on its way, and that it was slated to launch late in 2008. Obviously that didn’t happen, but the company has gradually been ramping up its live streaming efforts. At 3.6 ounces and 0.28 inches thick, the latest version is 15 percent thinner and 12 percent lighter than the third-gen touch. Design

The Fascinate has a nearly identical design to the Vibrant; it measures 4.8 x 2.5 x 0.4 inches and, like the Vibrant, has rounded corners, unlike the Captivate's more square design. The device is all black, save for a thin strip of chromed plastic around the edge. Below the keyboard are four touch buttons (Settings, Home, Back, and Search) that are backlit in white, but after a few seconds, the lights turn off, making it difficult to figure out their placement in the dark.

The back of the Fascinate has a subtle square pattern, broken up only by the 5-megapixel camera and LED flash.

Weighing 4.2 ounces, the Fascinate is considerably slimmer and lighter than the Droid X (5 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches; 5.5 ounces) and Droid 2 (4.6 x 2.4 x 0.5 inches; 5 ounces). As such, it's less noticeable when slipped into a pocket.
