ANJAANA ANJAANI and the spectre of unknown

Sajid Nadiadwala must be wondering what to do, as his protge, and long time associate Salman Khan who has given quite a lot of hits to him including JUDWA, MUJHSE SHAAADI KAROGI etc., has emerged as a veritable threat to his new film ANJAANA ANJAANI owing to the phenomenal success that DABANGG is enjoying all over the country. The ostensible reason for postponing the release is on account of the plausible reason that the court could decide the verdict on Ayodhya and it may have negative effect on ANJAANA ANJAANI, latest offering by Sajid Nadiadwala, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. On the face of it, even press conference was addressed to put the issue under perspective, but how many of those who follow the trend of cinema would buy the argument?

England squad announcement as it happened

Herein lies a lesson for all you county cricketers out there. Your performances do matter. Tremlett and Panesar could easily have been consigned to the dustbin of history. But they got out there, put in consistently good performances - Tremlett in the second division - and now they're going on an Ashes tour. If they can do it, why not you? But seriously, Darren Pattinson, you probably should take that timeshare.
  1. Are these the 16 men to bring the Ashes (metaphorically speaking) back to England? Ultimately, it's a bit of a moot point. It's individual brilliance - Broad and Botham in 86-87, Tyson in 56-57, Hobbs in 11-12 - that brings urns home, and the onus will be on England's marquee players to perform. To paraphrase Andrew Strauss, though: I am looking forward to this series with enormous anticipation. I'm sure you are too. Tomorrow's paper will have some frankly world-class reaction to the squad announcement, amd we'll have every ball of The Ashes live on this very site. Cheerio.

Michelle Rodriguez Will Literally Fight for 'Avatar' at Austin's 2010 Fantastic Fest

People who love film -- from fanatics on Internet message boards to professional critics at major newspapers -- are used to defending their opinions on movies they love or hate with their words. But how many are willing to do so with their fists?
A select number of movie-obsessed individuals will get their chance this week at this year's Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. The annual event, put on by the renowned Alamo Drafthouse Theater, is the largest genre festival in the U.S., and it has hosted the world premieres of movies as varied as "There Will Be Blood" and "Zombieland."
This year features the return of the festival's Fantastic Debates. Filmmakers, critics, and other movie professionals will go face-to-face in a two-part confrontation. First, they will engage in a formal debate on a contentious topic. Then, they will literally duke it out in a round of boxing. Sunday's main event will be a debate on the topic "Should 'Avatar' have won the Oscar for Best Picture?" Arguing against will be festival co-founder Tim League. And fighting in defense of the movie? "Avatar" costar Michelle Rodriguez.

Months after Fox and Brian Austin Green tied the knot on the beach in Hawaii, the couple are still in the blissful ‘honeymoon stage.’
“Getting married was the best thing I’ve ever done,” Fox told People at the Passion Play Toronto International Film Festival premiere on Friday. “I married my best friend. I’m so lucky to get to be with him every day, and he’s my protector. I feel so safe and happy and completed.”
Green, 37, knew that Fox, 24, was the one. “[Marriage is] the one thing that I was really specific in waiting for until I was with somebody that I knew that I would be right with and she’s the one. She makes me happy and a better person. She’s everything,” Green told People.
The couple had been dating on-and-off for 6 years, and finally decided to take the next step in June. Green admitted, “There’s nice stability that comes with getting married. It’s a nice thing to know that I’ll come home to her and she’ll come home to me. It’s not the paper so much – it’s saying the vows and meaning it.”

Helen Mirren reveals first-ever Parkinson interview “was enraging”

Mirren, 65, was just 30 when she made her first appearance on TV show, Parkinson, during which the veteran TV presenter – now 70 – made a series of comments that were deemed sexist, even quoting one theatre reviewer who described The Queen star as "projecting sluttish eroticism".
In an interview with US magazine Bust, the London-born actress, who went on to appear on Parkinson two more times before it ended in 2007, says: "It was enraging.
"But it was par for the course to a certain extent. It was fairly common, that kind of attitude.
"Looking back, I think I handled it really well. It was the first time I had ever done a talk show, ever…
"I was so nervous, terribly nervous and I was mortified by the end of it. But when I look back, I see I handled it with humour, but I wasn't taking it."
She adds: "At least now, young actresses can say, 'F*** off' and still work again…”
The former Prime Suspect, who has lived in LA since 1986 with her director husband Taylor Hackford, has recently been filming the remake of Arthur with Russell Brand and Jennifer Garner.
