Green Bay (9-6) came up big last Sunday in a game against New York that they had to have. The Packers were happy to get back quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who was out for the game before with a concussion. Rodgers came back to throw for 400 yards and four touchdowns in leading Green Bay to a 45-17 victory over the Giants.
The Bears should know by game time what their situation will be. The Eagles loss on Tuesday clinched a first round bye for Chicago, but a Falcons loss in the early game Sunday to the Carolina Panthers would open the door for the Bears to be the NFCs No. 1 seed with a win over the Packers.
For the Bears on defense, they come in after giving up 34 points, but on the whole are pleased with the way they have been playing in the second half of the season, losing just once in the last eight games. Chicago did give up nearly 400 yards in offense to the Jets though, and will have to limit the big plays. It all depends how how the coaching staff go about playing the starters however.
The Packers also re-signed guard/center Evan Dietrich-Smith on Friday. Dietrich-Smith appeared in 13 games for the Packers as a rookie last season, primarily on special teams. Chicago (11-4) has already clinched its third NFC North title in six seasons and secured a first-round playoff bye heading into the final week of the regular season.Green Bay (9-6), meanwhile, kept its playoff hopes alive with a dominating performance in a 45-17 win over the New York Giants, denting their chances at the postseason.Now, the Packers just need to beat the Bears to get in. However, a loss would require the Giants to lose to Washington and Tampa Bay to fall to New Orleans. In that scenario, the Packers would win a three-way tiebreaker at 9-7 over the Buccaneers and Giants.
