
City were held to a 1-1 draw by a battling Fulham at Eastlands last week. Mario Balotelli scored for City, but Damien Duff nullified that strike to ensure that the teams shared points. The draw all but ended Manchester City’s title aspirations and manager Roberto Mancini will now have to look at finishing in the top four this season. Mancini has criticized his strikers including Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko for failing to get the requisite goals and it will be interesting to see how they react in this game.
Meanwhile Wigan Athletic continue to sit at the bottom of the pile following their 0-4 loss to Manchester United last week. The game was in the spotlight due to Wayne Rooney’s elbow on James McCarthy’s face. Rooney escaped punishment much to the fury of Wigan boss Roberto Martinez, who will be concerned about his side’s woeful form leading into the business end of the season.
