There is unlikely to be a return from injury for Newcastle favourite Hatem Ben Arfa with Pardew ruling it one match too early for the tricky French striker. Having initially arrived on loan from Marseille in the summer, the French international quickly became a firm fan favourite with his early performances. A knee injury forced him out for a prolonged period but his rehabilitation has gone well. Boosted by a permanent contract awarded to him earlier this year, Ben Arfa will be eager to get back on the pitch and play for the fans, whom he has described as one of the best he has ever met. The strong support has also appeared to put his career back on the right track after several disciplinary run-ins with the authorities in French football. Everton will be saved the torture of having to face Ben Arfa, but Pardew hinted that he is likely to pencil the striker in for the subsequent match against Wolves. Do not be surprised if Ben Arfa does make an appearance against the Merseysiders though, albeit from the substitutes bench and if the game is already won.
It has been yet another disappointing week leading up to the live English Premier League online streaming football match for Everton as they were knocked out of the FA Cup in midweek and left stunned by Championship side Reading. The limp 1-0 loss left manager David Moyes speechless and fans booing the team off the pitch at the end. Having beaten Chelsea in the previous round, the Toffees were hoping for an extended run in the competition but has been left with nothing but survival in the Premiership once more. Just five points above the relegation zone, Moyes knows that he has another huge task on his hands trying to lift the morale of his team. It will not be an easy trip to Tyneside either. Newcastle are ferocious in their own backyard and can be expected to give no quarter to any visiting side. Added to his problems are the injuries to midfielders Tim Cahill and Marouane Felliani, Moyes will have to do without both key players for an extended length of time. While the improving form of summer signing Jermaine Beckford has been a bright spot in recent weeks, the lack of any consistency on the pitch means a season of regret and disappointment for the ambitious Moyes. Can his players lift their game enough to claim three precious points against Newcastle to build on last week’s win over Sunderland? Or will it be further doom and gloom on the blue half of Merseyside thereafter?
